Can I travel with less than 6-months validity left on my passport?

This is a question we get all the time and the answer is: Maybe

Other nations request that you have at least 6-months left on your passport when you enter their country due to concerns that you become delayed due to illness or some other unforseen problem. They don't want you in their country with an expired passport. Some countries with which the US has good diplomatic relations (Canada, Mexico, the UK, etc.) might overlook this if you have say, 5 months left before your passport expires however, you cannot predict where along the process you might be denied.

The airline as you are leaving the US should check your passport and could deny you boarding. Or you could fly to London and be denied entry by the border authority there. There is no way to predict if or when traveling on a soon-to-expire passport will cause a problem but you have to ask: is it worth the cost to risk it? Renew your passport well before your passport expires (we suggest once you have a year left) and never try to travel with less than 6-months remaining on it.
